Undercover officer Mark Kennedy had relationships with three of the women involved in the legal action. Police
chiefs have apologised unreservedly to seven women who were deceived
into forming “abusive and manipulative” long-term relationships with
undercover police officers.
The Metropolitan police
have also paid substantial, undisclosed amounts of compensation to the
women who had intimate relationships, lasting up to nine years, with the
undercover spies.

Protesters blockaded the main entrance of New Scotland Yard in London this morning in a demonstration against undercover police officers having sex with members of groups they infiltrate.
The comprehensive apology comes four years after the women launched
legal action against the police, alleging the deception caused them
emotional trauma. As part of an out of court settlement, Martin Hewitt, an assistant commissioner at the Met, issued a statement
saying: “Thanks in large part to the courage and tenacity of these
women in bringing these matters to light it has become apparent that
some officers, acting undercover whilst seeking to infiltrate protest
groups, entered into long-term intimate sexual relationships with women
which were abusive, deceitful, manipulative and wrong. “I acknowledge that these relationships were a violation of the
women’s human rights, an abuse of police power and caused significant
trauma. I unreservedly apologise on behalf of the Metropolitan police
service. I am aware that money alone cannot compensate the loss of time,
their hurt or the feelings of abuse caused by these relationships.” He added: “Most importantly, relationships like these should never
have happened. They were wrong and were a gross violation of personal
dignity and integrity.
“The Metropolitan police recognises that these cases demonstrate that
there have been failures of supervision and management.
The
Metropolitan police recognises that this should never happen again and
the necessary steps must be taken to ensure that it does not.”
He
described the conduct of the undercover officers as “totally
unacceptable” and conceded that the woman had been “deceived pure and
simple”.
On Friday, the women said:
“Although no amount of ‘sorry’, or financial compensation, can make up
for what we and others have endured, we are pleased the police have been
forced to acknowledge the abusive nature of these relationships and
that they should never happen.
“By linking our cases together we have been able to evidence a clear
pattern of abusive, discriminatory behaviour towards women which amounts
to institutional sexism by the Metropolitan police.”
“Five years ago, it would have seemed inconceivable to the public
that state employees would go to such lengths but the scale of abuse
uncovered demonstrates that this was accepted practice for many years.“
The women have criticised police for obstructing legal action through a variety of tactics since they launched
it in 2011. On Friday, Hewitt accepted that the legal proceedings “have
been painful distressing and intrusive and added to the damage and
distress. The women have conducted themselves throughout this process
with integrity and absolute dignity.”
The settlement is a significant moment in a controversy that has
enveloped police since late 2010 when Mark Kennedy, the undercover spy
who infiltrated environmental groups for seven years, was unmasked by
activists.
One of the women, known only as Lisa Jones, had a six-year relationship with Kennedy before she and her friends exposed him. In her first media interview,
she told the Guardian that gradually uncovering the truth about him
felt like “long, slow painful torture – real psychological torture”. Another undercover officer, Bob Lambert, had relationships with four women while pretending to be an animal rights and environmental activist for four years in the 1980s.
Helen Steel, an environmental campaigner who was one of the two defendants in the McLibel legal action
against restaurant chain McDonald’s, had a two-year relationship
between 1990 and 1992 with John Dines, who spied on leftwing groups. She
said : “I am glad the Metropolitan police have finally admitted that these undercover relationships were abusive and indefensible.”
However, an eighth woman in the legal action, Kate Wilson, has not
accepted the settlement and continues her legal fight. Wilson, who had a two-year relationship with Kennedy
between 2003 and 2005, said that following the discovery of his real
identity, “my sense of who I am and what I can believe, have been
devastating and I remain haunted by unanswered questions”.
It is understood that the police did not disclose any documents about
the covert deployments of the undercover officers during the legal
case. Other women who were deceived into having relationships with
undercover officers have yet to settle their legal actions against the
police.
The announcement on Friday follows an out of court settlement reached
last year with a woman who was profoundly traumatised after finding out
by chance that Lambert was the father of her son. The woman, known as Jacqui, was paid more than £400,000 by the Met. She had made the discovery 24 years after Lambert abandoned her and her son.

The statement of Joel 2:25—“I
will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten”—is a
reference to the produce of food from the years the locusts destroyed
the harvest. A closer look at the context and details of this verse
offers additional insight into the goodness of GOD.
Israel’s crops had been destroyed by a locust invasion (Joel 1:4),
and the impact lasted more than one year. This could indicate that
locusts invaded in consecutive years. However, it is more likely that
the damage of one invasion had a multi-year impact. When locusts
destroyed a crop, they wiped out the seed saved from the previous year, the harvest of the current year, and the seed that would be used the next year. Locust devastation of grape vines and fruit trees would take years to redevelop (Joel 1:12).
Joel 2:25
complements the preceding verse, which says, “The threshing floors
shall be full of grain; the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.” The
restoring of the years the locust had eaten would include an abundant
harvest of grain, grapes, and olives.
Joel had used the locust invasion as an illustration of GODS judgment. In His promise to “RESTORE” the years lost to the locust, GOD is
pledging to restore His repentant people to a place of blessing after
judgment. The context describes many other positive things that would
take place during this restoration:
-Green pasture for livestock: “the pastures of the wilderness are green” (Joel 2:22).
-Trees and vines that bear fruit: “the tree bears its fruit; the fig tree and vine give their full yield” (Joel 2:22).
-The spring and summer rains would come as needed for a good crop: “he has given the early rain” (Joel 2:23).
The results of this restoration would be both physical and spiritual.
Physically, “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied.” Spiritually,
they would “praise the name of the LORD your GOD, who has dealt
wondrously with you” (Joel 2:26).
The conclusion of this section of Joel summarizes GODS intention for
the RESTORATION: “And my people shall never again be put to shame.
You
shall know that I am in the midst of ISRAEL, and that I am the LORD your GOD there is none else. And my people shall never again be put to
shame” (Joel 2:26-27).
GOD must deal with sin, but when His people repent, they find abundant
blessing that more than compensates for what was lost in the judgment. HIS GRACE ABOUNDS.

GODS method of encouraging and strengthening those he calls to serve HIM The LORD is acutely aware of the TRIALS and DIFFICULTIES, which his servants face. HE knows all about the race they are running, the country they are passing through. Sometimes they do not know how serious their situation is until the LORD shows them. This was the case with Jeremiah: He was unaware of the plots against his life until the LORD revealed them to him.
The Lord recognizes the frustration and the failure of his servants; HE is aware of the times when they stumble and feel they cannot keep up. He deliberately chooses “the weak things of the world” (1 Cor. 1:27) and he understands the make-up of those whom he APPOINTED before they were BORN.

The LORD encourages his servants to find strength for the future in himself. He honours them by counting on their faithfulness. That is the point of these questions, which GOD asks Jeremiah. We do not hear his answer, but we know what it must have been: “I will trust you and I know you will be with me, as you have promised, even when it means competing with horses and facing the thickets of Jordan.”
💡GOD IS A STRONG TOWER There is no other throne like this throne. Its glory is the glory of GOD, who sits upon it. It is an eternal throne, exalted above all the thrones of earth and time. Yet it is “THE THRONE OF GRACE,” (Heb. 4:16) where mercy is received and where servants of the MOST HIGH find sanctuary.
It is in their relation to this throne that the secret of their strength is found. This is why Jeremiah, who trembles like a child when GOD calls HIM, stands as “a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall” (Jer. 1:18) before rulers, priests and people. This is why he can keep going, despite the people’s iniquity which seems to be “inscribed with a flint point on the tablets of their hearts” (Jer. 17:1). This is why he can persevere in spite of the mockery that met his message: “They keep saying to me, ‘Where is the word of the LORD? Let it now be fulfilled!’” (Jer. 17:15) He is in touch with the throne.

The central thought of the divine mind is that we, as living vessels to
contain GOD, have to receive GOD in CHRIST and through the SPIRIT as
life and the life supply into us; That we have to be transformed into
gold, pearl, and precious stones; and that we have to be built up
together as a living Body, a corporate bride with the nature, form,
appearance, and essence of CHRIST as a living counterpart to match CHRIST. We must be controlled and directed by this light. This light
will cause us to drop many other things which are less important,
valuable, and weighty. Thus, in Genesis 2, GOD revealed to us that man was
created completely as a vessel. However, he still needed to be completed
with the divine life and with a counterpart, a helpmate, a WIFE. Adam
needed to receive God as life into him to be filled with God. Then
eventually, he would have a bride (Gen. 2:18-23). After we have
received GOD in CHRIST as life to us, and after we have realized,
experienced, enjoyed, and appropriated GOD as life to us, what will come
out eventually will be the bride of CHRIST. The last item of the whole
Scripture is a bride (Rev. 21:2, 9; 22:17). The HOLY city, the New JERUSALEM, is the bride of the Lamb as the WIFE, the counterpart, of CHRIST. John the Baptist told us that CHRIST is both the Lamb (John
1:29) and the Bridegroom who will marry the bride (3:29). Today CHRIST
is preached mostly as the redeeming Lamb, but Christ as the Bridegroom
is neglected. The goal of the redemption of Christ is to have a bride. The
last item of Genesis 2 is a bride, a counterpart. We need to receive CHRIST experience CHRIST, and be filled with CHRIST. Then the ultimate
issue, the outcome, of this experience is that we will be built up
together as a corporate bride to match CHRIST. The more we enjoy,
experience, and realize CHRIST, the more we will be built up together as

receive CHRIST as life, we have HIM as a precious and excellent

but we will be transformed into gold, pearl, and precious stones. After
we are regenerated, we have the divine nature as gold. Then the LORD
continues to transform us from the human form to the divine form, from
clay to something as precious as gold, pearl, and onyx stone. After regeneration
we have to be transformed from the natural form into the glorious form,
the form of the divine life. We need to be transformed into the image of CHRIST from glory to glory (2 Cor. 3:18). When we are transformed into
the nature of gold, the nature of pearl, and the nature of the onyx
stone, we will be precious material for the building up of the church as
the Body, as the bride to CHRIST. *FIRST; We have to receive CHRIST *SECOND; We have to be transformed by CHRIST, through CHRIST, and with CHRIST *THIRD; We have to be built up together as the Body, as a
